A new roof, better lighting and acoustic panels funded with the help of the provincial government have helped to breathe new life into the Lions Community Centre in Vermilion Bay.
Lions Club president Trish Paquin smiled when asked if they are putting the “community” back in the community centre. The members were giving a tour to Kenora-Rainy River MPP Greg Rickford who noted helping support these vital projects in his riding is the favourite part of his job. Through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund the Lions Club was able to access $65,000 to fund the roof repairs. And the volunteers were already nudging the MPP they could use help upgrading the hall’s kitchen.

The Lions will be hosting a Father’s Day event this Sunday but add the centre host dances, weddings, celebrations of life while also serving as a muster point in the event of an emergency or if the nearby school needs additional space.
