If you are worried about paying rent, a new law in Ontario is meant to help you.
The legislation was given royal assent Wednesday, and will increase fines for landlords caught unlawfully evicting tenants who are having problems paying rent during the pandemic from an apartment or house .
The law also requires more negotiation between tenants and landlords to find a solution.
Fines for individual landlords will go up to $50,000, while corporations will face a bill of $250,000.
