Youth in Northwestern Ontario will now be allowed to participate in a new “trapping program” through the Ministry of Natural Resources.
Youth between 12 and 15-years-old will be eligible to obtain a trapping licence, which will allow them to posses, prepare and sell pelts commercially. Those who are interested must complete the Fur Harvest, Fur Management and Conservation Course and be accompanied by a licensed trapper who is at least 18-years-old.
Shannon Gutoskie is a spokesperson with the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, and says this kind of program is a great thing for this region, adding it will provide recreational and outdoor benefits, as well as pass along the knowledge that is part of our culture as Canadians.
