Advocating For A New Rule

Rules are rules – but some rules are discriminatory when it comes to age.

Things need to change and change soon when it comes to ‘the five second rule’. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five-second_rule

I would like to advocate that the five second rule, applied after dropping food on the floor, should only apply to people younger than 50.

There are several reasons that I am putting this motion forward.

Number one: I am over 50 and I often drop food on the floor – like I did in this picture.

Number two: After dropping food on the floor it takes people who are over 50 (or at least me) at least 5 seconds to locate the dropped food. It could be a vision thing.

Number three: Once the food has been located on the floor it takes people who are over 50 (or at least me) at least 10 seconds to bend down to the floor to get the dropped food.

Number four: Once on the floor and have the dropped food in hand – people who are over 50 (or at least me) still question and try to remember whether or not what is now in the hand is what we actually dropped on the floor. Add another 5 seconds.

Number five: Once it’s finally determined that what is now in the hand is what we dropped – people who are over 50 (or at least me) now still question whether or not to wash the dirt off or just eat the food as is. After all we are over 50 and have probably at some point eaten something a lot worse that was in poor sanitary condition and……..we lived to tell about it! Add another 5 seconds for decision making time.

Number six: The decision made. I ate the banana. All of it. While on the floor. On my knees. And now……I need to somehow get up off the floor. If you’re over 50 (like me) add at least 15 seconds or perhaps 15 minutes to successfully complete ‘Number six’ if you are going to wait to eat the food standing up. It might be a while before we get to the upright position again but we’ve earned the right. We’ve earned the needed time.

If you’re over 50 please join me in revising the ‘5 second rule’. It’s ‘time’ is over…..or is that under? Am I still on the floor??
