New Rules For Drone Operators

Transport Canada has new rules for those who fly recreational drones in the country.

All remote controlled flying machines weighing between 250 grams and 35 kilograms must now be marked with the owners contact information.

They can’t fly higher than 90 metres, or at night, or within nine kilometres of an existing airport.

Drones will also not be allowed in areas where float planes traditionally takeoff and land.

The new rules say the machines can’t operate within 75 metres of buildings, vehicles or people.

Operators caught breaking the rules could face fines of up to $3,000.

These rules apply to recreational users and registered SFOC users have not had any changes to regulations.
