The Northwestern Health Unit is reporting a smooth start to a new school year.
Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kit Young Hoon says they have heard no concerns from parents, kids or teachers and no new COVID-19 cases have been reported.
She adds it appears everyone is following physical distancing and mask rules.
“We have a hotline that is open for any type of questions or concerns from any member of the public. At this point I have not been informed of any substantial complaints or concerns from parents. I think everyone is monitoring the situation to see how things progress.”
Dr. Kit Young Hoon notes it’s up to individual schools to enforce public health prevention measures.
She notes they remain in constant contact with individual schools and school boards.
Sherri-Lynne Pharand is the Director of Education for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board and says it’s nice to see students finally in their classrooms.
“Lot’s of laughter and smiles and happy children and happy teachers welcoming them back. So the first day of school we planned for all summer and it went smoothly.”
She adds “the reward really was seeing the happy faces of kids who have missed one another and teachers who have missed their students.”
Pharand notes health protocols remain in place at all schools including scheduled hand washing times.
