The next Chief Justice of Canada has been officially announced.
The Honourable Richard Wagner, who was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 2012, has been named to the role.
He’ll replace outgoing Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin who retires this Friday. In a release, McLachlin calls him a distinguished jurist and a person of deep integrity.
Wagner will be sworn in as Chief Justice by the Governor General in a ceremony at Rideau Hall.
