Nick Minerva Named Defenceman Of The Year

Nick Minerva of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named SIJHL Top Defenceman for the year.

The 20-year-old ran away with the scoring title for defenceman with 21-goals and 52-assists in 52-games.

Minerva also finished second overall in league scoring.

His nine power-play goals tied him for the most among SIJHL defenceman.

Earlier in the year, Minerva was named top player for the month of November and December.

He becomes the first Fort Frances-based player to win the award since Kurt Hogard accomplished the feat in 2003-2004 with the then Borderland Thunder.

Dryden’s Troy Williams was named a finalist for the award.
