Nipigon Sees First COVID-19 Case

The first case of COVID-19 in the Township of Nipigon has been confirmed.

The Township made the announcement in a Facebook post, but is not providing any details about the patient.

Township officials are asking their residents to stay home.

The Health Unit’s Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janet DeMille says they have begun a public health investigation into this case.

This makes the sixth case in the Northwest region, alongside three cases in Thunder Bay, one in Fort Frances, and another in the Rainy River area.

The federal government has enacted the Quarantine Act which requires travellers to self-isolate for 14-days once they return to Canada. Health Unit officials are also urging you to get your news on COVID-19 from credible news sources and that the Health Unit will be confirming any cases which show up in the district.
