It appears northerners won’t be paying for transit upgrades in Toronto right now.
Premier Kathleen Wynne has dismissed concerns with an announcement that the government won’t increase gas taxes, HST or personal income taxes for an expansion of rapid transit services in Southern Ontario.
The government isn’t saying immediately how they will cover the billions of dollars needed.
Wynne says that will be announced in the upcoming provincial budget.
She notes other revenue tools will be considered, but won’t tip her hat to what those measures will be.
PC Critic Vic Fedeli calls it a pre-election mirage intended solely to get the Liberals past the next vote.
