As you continue to swat mosquitoes this summer, you may be concerned about the West Nile Virus.
However, Al Mathers of the Northwestern Health Unit says the risk of transmission to humans is actually very low.
Mathers says in this region, the virus typically doesn’t turn up in birds until early August and by that time its too late to transmit to humans.
He adds there has never been a human case of West Nile in Northwestern Ontario.
The mosquito trapping program is starting this week in Dryden, Kenora and Fort Frances.
