Charges are pending against a Dryden apartment owner following a fire alarm call.
Dryden firefighters were dispatched to a King Street apartment complex on Saturday night.
Smoke was reported coming from one of the rooms.
Officials say the fire was contained to the oven and smoke was ventilated from the seven unit apartment.
Acting Fire Chief Ken Kurz says the apartment didn’t have a working smoke alarm.
A check of other units also found no working smoke alarms.
In Ontario it is law that all residential buildings have working fire alarms on every level.
Fines for violating the Ontario Fire Code start at $235 but go as high as $10,000.
Kurz stresses that working smoke alarms save lives.
