NOACC Expresses Mixed Views On Budget

Northwestern Ontario won’t benefit much from this year’s federal budget.

That’s the feeling of the Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce, which says there’s no sign of loan guarantees for softwood lumber, which would have helped the forest industry.

However, NOACC spokesperson Charla Robinson says there’s some good news for the mining sector.

“We’re always looking for the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit. That has been extended for one more year. So that’s a good thing. We continue to push for it to be made permanent. But we’ll take a year by year if that’s what we have to take. “

Robinson adds she’s happy the federal budget also includes $200 million for skills training and $400 million for small businesses.
