The Provincial Government is being urged to cough up more money for area communities.
That was the plea from the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association at a pre-budget consultation session in Thunder Bay this morning. (Wednesday)
Vice-President Dave Canfield says additional funds for infrastructure is critical.
Canfield also called for an improved energy transmission line to ensure mining and other opportunities move forward.
He says the current grids are inadequate and if the situation was the same in Southern Ontario, it wouldn’t be accepted.
Canfield also requested a $75 increase in the Northern Communities Grant to help Municipalities deal with declining property assessments.
The Kenora Mayor also raised concerns of inefficient and rising costs to Municipalities to provide non-emergency patient transfers.
