Ontario has a prime opportunity to kick-start its forest industry.
That’s the message of Dave Canfield, the president of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association.
He says the mountain pine beetle has devastated forests in B.C. and there will be an increased demand for lumber from other jurisdictions.
Canfield says while mining has a promising future in our region, forestry should be taking front and center right now.
Canfield made his comments to premier Kathleen Wynne at the Northern Leaders Forum in Timmins on Friday.
