The President of the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is applauding a move by the federal government to continue the gas tax program for municipalities.
Dave Canfield says almost $4-billion will be made available over the next five years.
Canfield says the feds have also promised to ease some of the restrictions that used to be placed on the money.
The money can now be used for different types of infrastructure projects, including sewer and water.
Canfield says the tax is expected to go up 2% next year and he hopes it will remain in place for good.
He says more money is needed for infrastructure as all Canadian municipalities are dealing with a major infrastructure deficit.
