A bursary established by area municipalities for students entering the Northern Ontario School of Medicine may not be awarded this year.
The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association set up the bursary by raising $100,000 in 5-years.
But Chair of the Northern Ontario Medical Education Award Fund Ron Nelson says while the first graduating class occurs this summer, the first award may not be handed out until next year.
Nelson says how the money will be awarded will be determined by Lakehead University and the School of Medicine.
He says NOMA still plans to raise funds that could be used towards other medical services, such as nurse practitioners.
