Another setback for tourism in our region.
The Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is speaking out against a provincial decision to cancel overnight camping in nine Provincial Parks across the North.
NOMA President Ron Nelson says the move impacts visitors and area residents.
Nelson says the move will have a negative impact on local businesses by reducing opportunities for RV’ers and campers.
Nelson adds the government isn’t looking out for the best interest of northerners.
He notes the Liberals are just looking at numbers and the usage rate and not looking at what’s best for the area.
Nelson says the area is already reeling from the closure of three Travel Information Centres and possible reductions at Ministry of Natural Resources offices.
The closest park affected here at home is Caliper Lake, northwest of Fort Frances.
