Normand Bergeron

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Normand Bergeron on October 22, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Norm is survived by his wife Diane of 28 years, and his three children Chantalle (Kyle) Cloutier, Melanie and Nick. He also leaves to mourn his parents George and Jeannette Bergeron, his siblings Georgette (Wayne) Rogers, Réal (Brenda) Bergeron, Denis Bergeron, Marie Bergeron (Brian LeClerc), Anita (Matt) Bestland, Rachelle (Todd) MacNeil, his in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
Norm grew up in St. Eustache, Manitoba. After he graduated in 1972 he lived and worked in Winnipeg on and off taking spring and fall off to help work on the family farm with his father. In 1978 he started with the elevator industry working for Otis Canada. In 1982 he decided to go back to work on the family farm until 1992. During those winter months he worked for various elevator companies. In 1985 he married the love of his life and soul mate Diane. They bought their first home in Elie and there they had 2 beautiful daughters Chantalle and Melanie. In 1991 they moved back to the family homestead, where their beautiful son Nick was born. In 1994 Norm moved his family to Thunder Bay to pursue his full time career with Otis Elevator. In 1998 they moved to Dryden where he took on the position of the Local Rep for Otis. Norm worked for Otis for the last 20 years until he was diagnosed with ALS in October 2011.
In his younger years Bert volunteered many hours to the St. Eustache community club. While in Thunder Bay and Dryden, Norm volunteered his time with various activities that the kids participated in. He was very active in the church, always helping out wherever he was needed and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved the outdoors enjoying fishing and hunting and was a member of the Dryden Conservation Club.
Normand and Diane spent most of their spare time at their lot in Long Lake. He was a very hard worker and always quick to lend a helping hand. He treasured his time spent with family and friends and his love for them shone through all of his days. He enjoyed Thursday nights curling with the guys and he could always be found at Robins Donuts chatting with everyone there. He meant so much to so many and he will surely be missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 30th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church with Father Alan Campeau officiating. Interment of ashes will take place in St. Eustache, Manitoba at a later date. Visitation and prayers will be held Tuesday, October 29th at 7:00 p.m. in the Moffat Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home.
