The deadline for closing the Experimental Lakes Area, west of Vermilion Bay is March 31st.
Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Bruce Hyer says even if the federal government does sell the Experimental Lakes Area, any new owner couldn’t take over by that date.
Hyer says the government should work with any new owner to create a solid business plan for the facility.
Hyer says the cost of closing the facility would be around $50-million and it would be much more feasible to offer bridge finanacing while a new owner takes over.
He notes the facility operates annually for a little over 1.5 million dollars.
Hyer says he’s also concerned that Kenora MP Greg Rickford has not talked about the ELA inside the House of Commons.
