Northern Ontario Party Repeats Calls For Stand-Alone Ministry

The Northern Ontario Party is once again demanding the provincial government create a Northern Ministry of Fish and Wildlife ran by Northerners.

Leader Trevor Holliday says fish and wildlife in our region is facing a crisis by years of mismanagement and hidden agendas of politicians who have little or no clue how to manage the resource.

Holliday says the ministry would be mandated to listen to local fish and wildlife groups and implement their conservation recommendations.

He adds his party would also demand that all stakeholders be brought to the table to discuss a comprehensive strategy as well as have an open discussion with First Nations on the numbers of animals being harvested.

Holliday also wants to see funding given to First Nations to create their own conservation programs, giving them control on their treaty lands.

Holliday says for years, we have less people fishing and hunting and their moose population continues to decline, while the population of black bears and wolves continues to rise.
