Ontario’s Energy Minister says northwestern Ontario will benefit from planned cuts to hydro rates.
Glenn Thibeault says on top of the 25% cut to rates, Hydro One customers in the north will see additional savings as the government is bringing down the distribution costs.
Thibeault says a R1 customer will see an average reduction on their distribution rate of between $20-$59.
He notes a R2 customer will see a reduction of $135 off their bill.
Thibeault says the serious reductions will result in 40% to 50% in savings.
The Sudbury MPP says First Nations communities will also see additional savings as they plan to remove the delivery line on hydro bills.
