Northwest Smoking Rates Declining

Looks like more people in the Northwest are butting out.
Health Canada has released a report saying that smoking rates for men and women are declining.
The most noticeable decrease is among those aged 15-19.
But we aren’t out of the water yet.
According to a Northwestern Ontario survey in 2009, 16 percent of high school students said they smoke cigarettes.
Officials say the overall smoking rate for our region is still higher then the remainder of the province.
Northwestern Ontario typically has a higher rate because of groups where smoking is traditionally common.
The average life expectancy of Canadians 73 years, compared to 82 years of people who don’t smoke.
