Not Clear If Fire Ban Will Be Lifted Before May Long

It’s too early to tell if a Restricted Fire Zone will be lifted in time for the May long weekend.

Jonathan Scott is with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and he says they will be monitoring the situation.

Scott says the outdoor burning ban will remain in place until conditions improve.

The MNRF states that we are entering the busiest recreational period of the Spring, at a time when we have some high to extreme hazards in the region.

Officials note they need to see “significant rainfall” in order to lift the fire ban.

To date, crews have responded to 82-fires, with 175-hectares of land burned.
