The City of Dryden is still wrestling with its 2013 budget.
Treasurer Adrienne Bodnarchuk presented the third draft of the 2013 Operating and Capital budget last night, and says we’re not out of the woods yet.
The current deficit is about $780,000, which includes $180,000 from required taxation and $600,000 in other expenses.
New expenses include legal and consulting fees from the Assessment Review Board, employee staffing costs which were previously underestimated and additional construction costs for the Sewage Treatment plant.
Bodnarchuk says if no more savings can be found, then residents can expect a 7.5% increase in taxes.
Mayor Craig Nuttall says they still want to get the tax increase down to about 3%.
However, Nuttall warns that may lead to additional layoffs and service cuts.
One area discussed at the open meeting was the Dryden Library.
The Library Board has already cut $36,000 from its budget, but Nuttall is wondering if more savings can be found.
