‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ singer Sinead O’Connor has passed away

Irish pop icon Sinead O’Connor has sadly passed away at the age of 56.

O’Connor shot to fame in 1990 with her hit song ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, which was named the number one world ingle by the Billboard Music Awards.

Tributes for the singer have been pouring in on social media, including a message from the Irish Prime Minister who expressed his sympathies for her family and loved ones.

O’Connor’s 17-year-old son Shane died tragically last year shortly after going missing.

In 2018, she converted to Islam and changed her name to Shuhada Sadaqat, however she continued to perform under her birth name.

Her 1990 album I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got in which ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ is featured, won a Grammy for best alternative music performance.
