Number of Issues Debated in Dryden

Improving the Health Care system in Northwestern Ontario was the main topic of discussion at last night’s Provincial All-Candidates Debate at the Royal Canadian Legion in Dryden.
Liberal Anthony Leek says funding structures need to be in place to ensure local residents are getting proper health care and long term care.
Conservative Rod McKay says we need to get money that’s being wasted on bureaucracy right back into front line health care.
Sarah Campbell of the NDP says we need to bring in more nurse practitioners and train more doctors.
Jo-Jo Holiday of the Green Party says we need to teach children in the school system proper nutrition and health habits to ensure our health care system isn’t taxed.
Crumbling infrastructure was also discussed as candidates were asked their position on the ‘Connecting Link’ program.
Anthony Leek says that he would push for increased funding for the Connecting Link infrastructure program.
Leek adds more investment is crucial in keeping our taxes low.
Rod McKay says the P.C. Party would bring lot’s of infrastructure money back into the Riding.
McKay says we need a working rail and highway system to be competitive on a global scale.
Sarah Campbell says the NDP has committed to a 3-year, $70-million fund to improve crumbling infrastructure.
Jo-Jo Holiday notes money on twinning Highway 17 would be better spent on building roads to Northern First Nation communities.
Holiday says that would build up economic growth.
