Northwestern Ontario residents have a couple of
unhealthy vices according to a Statistics Canada Community
Health Survey.
The 2005 Survey was released on Wednesday, and states
that 40% of area residents smoked their first cigarette
between the ages of 5 and 14. Provincially only 33%
started smoking at such a young age.
Health Unit Spokesperson Val Mann says many Northerners
are overweight.

The survey says many area residents are not eating
enough vegetables and fruit.
Mann says they’ll be using the data to tailor their
programs to combat the region’s health issues.
