It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Rose Savage (née Riberdy), who died on April 7, 2026, at the age of 85, in Dryden.
Marie was the beloved spouse of Guy Savage (deceased) and the devoted mother of Pierre (Claudine) and Robert (Bob, deceased). She was a cherished Mémère to her grandchildren Philippe (Mélanie), Maxime (Amie), Dominique (Cole), Joshua (Heather), Zach, Marissa (deceased), Jessica, and Nicole, and to her great-granddaughter, Reina Rose Savage. She was predeceased by her parents, Rosa and Donat Riberdy; her brother, Lionel Riberdy; and her daughter-in-law, Barb Savage. She is survived by her brother, André Riberdy (Denise), as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
Born on May 1, 1940, in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Marie lived a life marked by her many passions, including fishing (both summer and winter), deer hunting, camping, sewing, woodworking, crafting, teaching cake decorating, selling her creations at markets, and gardening. Her Catholic faith was a guiding force in her life, reflected in her kindness, generosity, and deep devotion to family—her greatest achievement.
A savvy businesswoman, Marie owned businesses in Sturgeon Falls and in Dryden, including the Dryden Community Funeral Home. Throughout her life, she wore many hats: an OR attendant in Sturgeon Falls, a homemaker, a caretaker, a wedding cake baker, and an exceptional caregiver to family and friends.
Marie was among the most genuine, honest, and caring people one could ever meet. She was known for her quick wit and her remarkable cooking and baking skills—though she often insisted this was not what she most enjoyed! Her delicious PPC, improvised lasagna, and sandwiches were often requested and eagerly devoured by her grandchildren. Fond memories include her hilariously chasing farm tractors through the fields during hay season to ensure everyone was well fed at lunchtime.
Marie loved playing cards—and winning—buying lottery tickets, spending time at the family cabin, and cherishing her pets. She enjoyed simple pleasures such as poutine, pizza, and Pepsi. She also formed meaningful friendships throughout her life and remained closely connected with extended family, especially those in Gaspé, Québec.
A private family service to celebrate Marie’s life and legacy will be held at a later date. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
The family would like to sincerely thank the medical staff at DRHC for their kindness and compassion during her hospital stay. They are also deeply grateful to Dr. Yvon Gagnon for his ongoing care and support over the years, as well as to the staff at Princess Court for the warmth and compassion shown to Marie over the last two years of her residency.
Marie believed that “Family comes first.” In her memory, may we cherish our loved ones and hold them close, knowing how short life can be.
She will remain forever in our hearts and memories.
