OFIA Pushing Forestry On Provincial Leaders

The Ontario Forest Industries Association is taking a keen interest in Thursday’s provincial election.

Chief Executive Officer Jamie Lim says they are looking for the party that wins to provide support to the forest sector, not more red tape.

Lim says they need real policies that not only keeps the jobs that they currently have, but grows them.

She stresses Ontario must get its act together, noting other jurisdictions are “getting it”.

Lim says they aren’t endorsing any one party, but they are pushing the message to the leaders that forestry is important to the economy of northern and rural Ontario.

Lim says 57,000 people work in the forest industry in Ontario, and those are valuable jobs.

She adds it doesn’t make sense that a country like Finland, which is three times smaller than Ontario, can harvest 80% more wood.
