A rest from competition at the Northern Bands Hockey Tournament last night in Dryden.
The Oldtimers game was the highlight with ex-NHL’ers Thomas Steen and Wayne Babych taking part as guest referees.
Babych and Steen both stated it was an honour to be part of the event.
Babych notes he does a lot of work on reserves with kids and notes it was great to see everyone come together.
Team Dryden beat the First Nations team 4-3 and Steen poked fun at the Dryden coaching staff as the team had four too many men on the ice penalties.
The game also featured a fight involving Kenora MP Greg Rickford, who held is own in the fun contest!
Rickford says this is an exciting tournament and the organizers are putting on a great show.
He notes this week showcases the true talent of aboriginal players.
