Ontario’s Aboriginal Affairs Minister says the province is doing what it can to get First Nations off diesel generation.
The comment comes as the government announced earlier this week it’s committing $8 million to connect a number of remote communities to the grid, as part of a $13 million spend to support climate change initiatives in the north.
David Zimmer says the province doesn’t have a deadline, but figures they can deal with about 20 First Nations that are generating diesel now.
He notes there are a couple of First Nations that are very far north, posing a greater challenge. (File photo)
