More money for skills training in Ontario.
Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development minister David Piccini says this builds on the over $2.5 billion in the Skills Development Fund the provincial government has already committed.
“We are launching round 6 of the training stream with a $260 million investment to protect Ontario workers from the threats of US tariffs,” Piccini announced at a press conference Tuesday morning.
“To train them for meaningful, well-paying careers, while keeping Ontario competitive in the face of global economic uncertainty.”
Piccini adds they are ready to roll out the next round of funding.
“Applications for round 6 are now open until October 1st. So, I encourage employers, employment service and training providers, labour unions, colleges, community organizations, that have innovative training projects to step forward to meet the moment with us.”
Piccini also announced $20 million in grants from intake 5 of the Skills Development Fund.
He says this will allow more than 4,800 youth to be trained in skilled trades, hospitality, health care and artificial intelligence.
