Ontario Investing In Nurse Practitioners

Ontario intends to increase the number of nurse practitioners who work in the province’s long term care homes.
Health Minister Deb Matthews says the province will provide $14-million over the next three years for the hiring of 75 new nurse practitioners.
Matthews says that means 93 nurse practitioners will soon be working in Ontario.
The provincial government has also unveiled a new program to help long-term care homes attract nurse practitioners.
The “Grow Your Own” initiative is aimed at homes who have difficulty recruiting and retaining nurse practitioners.
The program will provide support to allow homes to recruit and sponsor a registered nurse to receive additional education to become a nurse practitioner.
The initiative will be launched in 2015-2016.
