The Ontario Native Women’s Association is again pleading for a national inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women.
The Harper government doesn’t want to call for such an inquiry, saying now is the time for action on the issue not another study.
Association spokesperson Maryanne Matthews disagrees.
She says they want the action to be effective and in order to do that it has to get to the underlying reasons for the problem and that’s why they want the full blown inquiry.
Matthews says the inquiry would reveal why Aboriginal women are subjected to so much violence.
