OPP Costing Committee Learns Of Building Concerns

A major roadblock has surfaced in a Provincial Police costing study in Dryden.

New provincial law states that any OPP Detachment can’t be built within 1-kilometre of train tracks because of the transportation of dangerous goods.

Chief Administrative Officer Ernie Remillard says that means they would not be able to use the existing Dryden Police Detachment.

It is unknown at this time if the OPP would consider alternative solutions such as renovating other City structures to accommodate this model. The OPP is currently looking into other viable options and are expected to get back to the City with more information within a few months.

He says the study is being delayed by the OPP internally as they look into any other potential solutions for the City of Dryden.
