Ontario Provincial Police say their doing what they can to find savings for municipalities under contract with the OPP.
Superintendent Rick Philbin of the OPP’s municipal policing bureau says a change in the formula used to calculate costs has helped.
Philbin says they were able to find a 1.2% in savings over two years.
Philbin adds a two-year wage freeze has also helped, but some municipalities worry about the impact of a pending 8.5% increase to kick in 2014.
Philbin says 90% of the costs paid out by municipalities is for officers on patrol.
