OPP Out With Northwestern Ontario RIDE Numbers

There was a slight decrease in the number of impaired drivers this holiday season in Northwestern Ontario.
Acting Sergeant Anne McCoy with the Ontario Provincial Police says that 46 people were charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.
However this number is down from 2011, which saw 57 people convicted of impaired driving.
In addition, officers issued a total of 14 Warn Range suspensions to drivers with a BAC between 0.05 and 0.08. This number is up from 11 in 2011.
McCoy says that across the region, about 62.5% of impaired drivers are males between 25-34 years old, while females in the same age bracket only account for 37.5%.
The O.P.P will continue to conduct R.I.D.E stops throughout the remainder of the year.
