OPP Providing Help In State Of Emergency

The Provincial Police are assisting the Mushkegowuk Tribal Council in northern Ontario.

The Council, representing seven First Nations including Attawapiskat, Fort Albany and Moose Cree, has declared a state of emergency.

The notice was given in response to the flow of illegal drugs, alcohol and prescription drugs into the communities.

The OPP say they will provide secondary policing support to assist the Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service and note the public may see increased police presence in the communities in order to stem the tide of illicit drugs.

Officials stress they are trying to be as proactive as possible to assist the Council.
