OPP Reminding Boaters To Not Drink And Drive This Weekend

It’s considered one of the busiest long weekends of the year as we head out to enjoy camp, the lake or festivals being held across the region.

The Provincial Police want to ensure it’s a safe Civic holiday for everyone and will be keeping a close eye on the water.

OPP remind everyone it’s illegal to transport alcohol in a boat unless it’s in a container that’s unopened and the seal is unbroken.

Operating a vessel while impaired can result in the suspension or loss of your driver’s licence.

Police say 20-people died on OPP patrolled waterways in 2014 and in five of the incidents alcohol or drugs were involved.

This season the OPP have already investigated six fatal boating incidents with eight lives lost.
