OPP step up enforcement of traffic laws this weekend

Expect to see Ontario Provincial Police being more visible this Thanksgiving long weekend.

OPP are embarking on their Operation Impact campaign, which targets motorists displaying careless and often dangerous driving habits.

Extra attention will be paid to speeding, impaired driving, distracted driving and failing to comply with Ontario’s seatbelt laws.

Police say there have already been nearly 300 people killed in motor vehicle collisions this year.

They say the vast majority of the fatal road incidents were preventable.

Deaths linked to driver inattention are up 40% over this time last year.
