The Ontario Provincial Police aren’t commenting on the specifics behind a taser incident at the Sioux Lookout Detachment.
The OPP has confirmed there was an incident involving a youth, where a conducted energy weapon was deployed at the Detachment last July.
Inspector Dave Ross says the matter is subject to Civil Litigation, so specific details can’t be released.
Ross notes the OPP will continue to use tasers as part of officers daily tool kit.
He adds the weapon is used to deal with people who are “assaultive” and its not based on age.
The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services has declined comment on the incident and the use of tasers.
Meantime, an Ontario government official who speaks for children is seeking a ban on the use of stun guns on minors, except in extreme situations.
Children’s advocate Irwin Elman says the use of Tasers on kids should be banned until the effects can be studied.
OPP Will Continue to Use Tasers
