The Ontario Provincial Police Association has taken exception to a report by the Special Investigations Unit, which looked into a fatal shooting near Pickle Lake this past summer.
The SIU report cleared two OPP officers of any wrong-doing, but the OPPA suggests it casts doubt on their integrity.
President Karl Walsh says he’s particularly concerned that the report does not provide any details of the incident
itself.
Walsh says Levi Schaeffer was armed with a knife and bear spray and refused to put down his weapons.
He suggests the officers only fired shots after they were backed into an area where they couldn’t retreat any further.
Walsh stresses that had the officers not acted in self defense, either one or both of them would have been seriously injured or killed.
