Outdoor Burning Ban Now In Place

There is now no outside burning of any kind allowed in most parts of northwestern Ontario.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has imposed a Restricted Fire Zone, effective noon Tuesday.

That means, campfires, brush and grass burning, backyard fire pits and cook stoves that use wood or charcoal are not allowed.

Officials say portable gas stoves may be used for cooking and warmth but must be handled with extreme caution.

All burning permits are also suspended. Recent warm weather has elevated the forest fire hazard across the region to high and extreme levels.

The ban is in place until further notice.

Impacted areas: Districts of Dryden, Kenora, Fort Frances, the southern portions of the Red Lake, Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout Districts and along the north shore of Lake Superior in the Nipigon District.
