Overtime Provides Different Outcomes For Miners And Ice Dogs

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs and English River Miners both went to overtime Friday night and it was the Miners who skated away with a win.

Connor Bowey tied the game with 42 seconds left in regulation and Parker Simonson scored with 24 seconds left in extra time as the top ranked Thief River Falls Norskies escaped with a 5-4 win.

The Ice Dogs dominated for most of the game outshooting the Norskies 51-23 but couldn’t put away the top ranked team in the nation.

Trey Palermo, Bryce McDonald, Josh Sylvain and Cory Dennis scored for the Ice Dogs.

Logan Sawka suffered the loss for Dryden GM, who drops 3 points back of the Norskies.

The win was the first for Thief River Falls in Dryden.

In Cochenour, Jared Janke scored his third of the game 1:57 into overtime as the English River Miners knocked off the visiting Thunder Bay North Stars 5-4.

Ethan Wong and Michael Di Lullo also found the back of the net.

Michael Lenko made 45 saves for the victory.

In Hoyt Lakes, the Fort Frances Lakers cruised to a 9-4 win over the Iron Rangers.

Hunter Buzzi of Ignace had 2-goals and an assist for the Lakers.
