Overwhelming Support For Tikinagan Initiative

3,000 kilograms of emergency relief supplies have been collected for children in the remote Pikangikum First Nation.
The effort to help Pikangikum was launched last month after the Tikinagan Child and Family Services of Sioux Lookout sent out an urgent request for assistance.
Pikangikum, 100 kilometres northwest of Red Lake, is facing over-crowded and inadequate housing and high unemployment.
The community also faces high rates of alcoholism and solvent abuse, and has seen 26 suicides over the last two years.
Officials are now trying to figure out how to get the supplies into the fly-in community.
