The Northwest Health Network has created a committee to address the issue of patient transfers.
The group of Northwestern Ontario hospitals will be discussing the hot topic with the Kenora District Services Board.
Lake of the Woods District Hospital Chief Executive Officer Marc Balcaen is a member of the committee, and says they’ve examined this issue before.

The Kenora District Service Board is responsible for emergency ambulance transfers, but has been utilized for non-emergency cases as well.
Balcaen notes the problem is when a patient has recovered from a procedure, and has no way to return back to their home community.
