PC Critic Comments On Hydro Rates

A new year hasn’t stopped the provincial opposition from letting up its attack on hydro rates. Progressive Conservative Energy Critic Todd Smith says the CEO of Hydro One already earned as much as the average Ontario family by noon time Friday. Smith says at lunch, Mayo Schmidt reached the $75,000 mark. Schmidt earned $4.5-million last year. Smith says this is the result of Kathleen Wynne’s disastrous handling of Hydro One, stressing everything under her watch has made life more unaffordable for Ontarians. He adds the interests of the Premier’s millionaire insiders are put ahead of the people. Smith says some of the PC commitments for the election year include rebating the government’s portion of Hydro One’s dividend directly to ratepayers on their hydro bills. Smith says they also plan to move conservation funding to the tax base as well as reign in exorbitant executive salaries at Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation. He stresses his government would also put an immediate moratorium on any new energy contracts and removing the Smart Meter Charge from hydro bills.
