PC Government Honouring Mercury Contamination Support Package

The MPP for Kenora-Rainy River says the Ford government is honouring the environmental fund set up to clean mercury contamination in the English-Wabigoon river system.

Greg Rickford stresses they aren’t done helping Grassy Narrows and Whitedog First Nations.

He says there will be “additional elements announced in the not to distant future”, stressing they are “very cognizant of their responsibilities and they are living up to them.”

Rickford adds the clean-up is underway.

Earlier in the week, Kiiwetinoong MPP Sol Mamakwa questioned the government on “what has been done to fulfill the commitment”, stressing “when a promise is made to First Nations people, the first people of this land, it has to be kept”.
