Progressive Conservative leader Doug Ford is promising to fire Hydro One’s Chief Executive Officer if he becomes Premier this June.
He calls the salaries being earned by utility executives “morally indefensible”, noting many of us are facing financial hardship because of skyrocketing hydro bills.
Ford says he will also remove Hydro One’s Board of Directors if elected.
Ford notes it’s not right or fair that families are forced to choose between heating and eating.
He notes hydro rates have tripled since 2003.
Meantime, Premier Kathleen Wynne is questioning the pledge from Ford.
Wynne says she has no idea how that will help any person in Ontario.
She says the move won’t take one cent off anyone’s electricity bill.
However, it’s unclear how Ford would carry out the major shake-up given the privatization of Hydro One in recent years.
